Choir

The Choir of the Singapore Mar Thoma Church has been serving the music ministry of the church since 1952, when it was first established. The Choir in its present form was organized in 1994 and has since then grown into a 52-member strong organization. The Choir provides leadership through its music ministry for the Sunday Worship Service, as well as during special occasions like the Christmas Season and the Passion Week; presenting specially prepared songs to add meaning to church occasions from time to time.

The Choir has to its credit two music CDs – Hallowed Season and Blessings (in commemoration the 80th Anniversary of the Church). The Choir has been able to fulfil its ecumenical promise by contributing to events like the Singapore National Day Thanksgiving Services, Unity Octave, and the Annual Ecumenical Services of sister churches in Singapore.

Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan Memorial Musical Event: 2026
The 6th Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan Memorial Musical Event (ZMT-MME) was held on 11th April at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary.  Themed “The Third Day: an Eastertide Musical Evening“, this event brought together around 240 attendees for a night of collective praise, worship, prayer and reflection. The attendees included parishioners, guests from other parishes and others.

In addition to the parish choir, the event hosted 3 guest choirs – the Choirs of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Immanuel Congregation, Singapore and the Parish of Christ Church, Singapore.

Rev Shibu P L of the Immanuel Congregation (Singapore) and Rev Thomas Isaac from the Parish of Christ Church also attended the event.
The choirs presented songs in diverse musical styles and languages, centred on the Eastertide theme of resurrection and the enduring hope of the cross. The Church choir and band also led a contemporary praise and worship segment. A highlight of this year’s event was the Taizé session, which created a serene and prayerful environment; this allowed for silent meditative prayers and intercession, interspersed between scripture reading and simple repetitive songs in harmony with instrumental music.
The musical evening provided a blessed ecumenical experience to all attendees and ended by about 8.20 pm with prayer and benediction and followed by a time of fellowship over dinner.

Sacred Music Sunday
This year’s Sacred Music Sunday was celebrated on May 24th, 2026. Rev Raj Elias Varghese led the service, assisted by the members of the choir. The choir presented a special song “God will sing” (words and music by Heather Sorenson). The choir members rededicated themselves using a special order of worship created for the occasion.

New member Sheny John was dedicated during the service. Anusha George delivered the message based on the theme “Divine voice in a noisy world” reminding members that like the rests in a piece of music, God’s silence is not His absence, and that during such periods in our life we should build a deeper connection with Him.  Coffee and light refreshments were served during the fellowship after the service.

Launch of the Choir’s Spotify, Apple Music, Sound Cloud, Instagram channels

A curated selection of Choir’s renditions have been made available on the apps. Also, members were introduced to the choir’s SoundCloud profile which serves as a growing digital archive featuring 200+ recorded music, including past albums and curated playlists.
